In a few days, people in Westbury will have the opportunity to meet writer of a book about the civil rights movement, which occurred 50 years ago.
‘The Bill of the Century: The Epic Battle for the Civil Rights Act’ was written by Clay Risen and published in April of this year. It offers a detailed look into the civil rights movement and the passage of the law itself in 1964.
Upon its release, Amazon.com deemed the book a ‘history pick of the summer’. It is Risen's third book. His other two publications, ‘A Nation on Fire: America in the Wake of the King Assassination’ and ‘American Whiskey, Bourbon and Rye: A Guide to the Nation's Favorite Spirit’, offered a closer look at the Kennedy era and whiskey production in the U.S., respectively.
Speaking to the Westbury Times, Risen says that he encourages anyone "interested in really understanding the broad context of race and civil rights in this country” to come to the reading.
Copies of ‘The Bill of the Century’ will be available for sale at the discussion, which takes place this Sunday, October 19, at the Westbury Library, and will include a discussion and book signing. No doubt the library and event organizers are using flyer printing to promote the free event, which begins at 2:30 pm.Get a Free Quote for Copies
