Levittown youngsters set the standard in annual tests

It would appear that students at schools in Levittown do not need to worry about the state of their education, as scores across the district were higher than the average for much of New York State in the yearly standardized tests.

Across New York, more students earned a ‘proficient’ score on the exams, meaning they received a score of 3 or 4. Students with a proficient score in English Language Arts (ELA) increased to 37.9% in 2016, up from 31.3% last year. At Levittown schools, 59% of students earned a proficient score in ELA, up from 52% the previous year.

Schools often make Banners to highlight how well their students performed on the state tests. When it came to math, Levittown students also performed well. Well over half (58%) earned a proficient score, which is the same amount as last year. Statewide, 39.1% of students earned a proficient score in math.

Higher scores are not the only shift in trends for the standardized tests for 2016. The Education Department made a number of changes to the tests themselves, including hiring a new vendor to create the tests, reducing the number of questions on the tests, and being more lenient about time. Students who were actively working on answers were allowed to continue to work after time ran out.
