In the middle of May, residents of Levittown will get to vote on the proposed budget for the school district.
The budget and spending plan for the upcoming, 2017-2018 school year has expenses that cost 2.32%, or $4.77m, more than the current year's budget. Although expenses are up, the tax levy is within the state tax cap, with a 1.14% increase.
School districts can use Mailing services to educate residents about their upcoming budgets and about how the money in the budget will be used. The budget up for vote expands both the AP Capstone program and the one-to-one tablet computer program. The additional funding in the budget will also expand several STEAM initiatives and the schools' World Language Program, and will create a science camp over the summer.
Other changes include purchasing new GPS systems and cameras for the schools' bus fleet, and buying new vehicles.
The total budget for 2017-2018 is $210.2m. Along with the increases, it calls for reducing spending in administrative areas and funding for capital projects.
Polls will be open throughout Levittown from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm on May 16. If the budget does not pass the May 16 vote, the district will have the chance to revise it and put it up for vote again in June. If that budget does not pass, the school district will resort to following an austerity budget during the upcoming school year.
