Levittown elementary school starts PRIDE program

Students, teachers and staff recently began a new program at Summit Lane Elementary School, part of Levittown Public Schools.

The program, called Unity and PRIDE, encourages students to focus on several positive attitudes as they move through the school year. The acronym stands for Patience, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence.

At the kick-off ceremony, staff members and students alike wore orange T-Shirts. The event began with a welcome from Keith Squillacioti, the principal of the school, which was followed by a video describing the PRIDE program. During his opening speech, Principal Squillacioti explained that the orange was the chosen color for the new Unity and PRIDE program and that the entire project was an extension of the ‘Get a Voice’ program.

Schools that want to connect students and staff together can use printing companies to produce logo T-Shirts.

During another part of the ceremony at Summit Lane Elementary, representatives from student council gave the orange T-Shirts to several assistant superintendents, including William Pastor, the assistant superintendent of business and finance; Dr. Donald Sturz, the assistant superintendent of pupil services; Debbie Rifkin, the assistant superintendent of human resources; and Todd Winch, the assistant superintendent of instruction.

Students also gave Dr. Tonie McDonald, the superintendent of schools, a shadowbox that contained an orange T-shirt, a PRIDE coupon, and photos of students.
