The town received the funds for the counseling center's grant from the Community Development Block Grant, a federal funding program. Hempstead Town distributed the money through its Department of Planning and Economic Development.
Anthony J. Santino, the town supervisor and Gary Hudes, a councilman, presented the check to the community counseling center, which offers social work programs based in schools, treatment and counseling for substance use, and a variety of other community services.
Santino told a reporter from Patch:
“YES Community Counseling Center has offered vital services to both children and adults in Levittown for decades and we’re happy to assist the group with its endeavors.”
Towns that distribute funds to local nonprofit groups can use banner printing to let people know about the grants the organizations have received. Towns can also promote those organizations to locals and make sure people know that services are available to them if needed.
The YES Community Counseling Center has been serving Levittown for 40 years. It was founded in 1977 with the goal of providing families and children with a range of programs to help them cope with conflict and stress, to reduce violence in families, and to provide stability to families going through crises. It now offers a wide range of counseling services for families, adults, and children.
