Poor soils that are low in nutrients may not be the most conducive to plant growth, but an upcoming exhibit on display at a Williamsville area botanic garden will show how nature has found a solution to this problem.
Venus fly traps, sundews, and other species on display at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens will show how some flora has adapted to using insects and other organisms as nutrient sources. The cost is included with general admission tickets, and it will be open for six hours each day.
Visitors to the exhibit will be able to view carnivorous specimens that are part of the venue’s permanent collection, and there will be other species included as well. There will be special sculptures on display crafted by local artist Melanie Fisher. To add even more interest, each ticketholder will receive a themed comic strip to follow along with as they go.
While the activity will offer the chance for guests to enjoy themselves it will also have a serious side, teaching those who take part about the plants that share their world. Banner printing and other decor preparation services for a special event or exhibit can be obtained from area Print shops.
This introduction to the weird and wonderful world of carnivorous plants will run from September 13 until October 31. Tickets may be reserved on the Gardens’ website.
