A state championship with a difference is coming to Catonsville, and a junior expo is part of the event.
The Maryland FIRST Lego League State Championship will be held at UMBC, and for the first time, a part of the event will give junior teams a chance to get together and share their inventions and ideas with other teams in the league, and with members of the community.
The FIRST Lego League (FLL) was created when the Lego Company allied with FIRST, which stands for ‘For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology’. Students who are taking part in FLL events have adult mentors who help them use their imaginations to solve engineering problems they are likely to encounter in the real world.
Open to students from ages 9-14, the FLL gives participants a chance to take part in an interactive, hands-on robotics program held in a team-sports atmosphere. Teams are made up of as many as 10 students, and concentrate on problem solving, team building, analytical thinking, and creativity to find solutions to problems occurring in the real world. A new challenge is issued each August to FLL teams throughout the world.
The FLL Junior Expo will take place during the FLL Championship: Boomtown Build Expo on February 23, from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm, at UMBC on Hilltop Circle. Banner printing can supply suitable decorations for events of this type.
