Flapper Era returns to Catonsville

The age of jazz music, Art Deco, and shorter dresses for women is on the way to Catonsville.

The Charlestown Community is presenting its 32nd Annual Gala: The Roaring Twenties. Attendees will enjoy dinner, a silent auction, contests, raffles, casino games, and an open bar, where cocktails popular during the Prohibition era will be served. A DJ will be on hand to play music for dancing, with the Charleston high on the list of tunes. Old Line Spirits, a local distillery, will also be on hand with special speakeasy tasting samples.

In addition, a Gangster & Flapper Contest is planned, so guests are encouraged to wear their best 1920s finery and take part. Prizes will be awarded.

The gala benefits the Charlestown Benevolent Care Fun (BCF), which works with the Charlestown Retirement Community. The BCF offers help with the living expenses and health care of residents whose financial resources have been exhausted. This gives residents the peace of mind that comes with knowing they will always have a home. Staff and volunteers work to receive donations year round, including holding special events such as the gala.

The gala is scheduled for September 25, from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm, at the Charleston Retirement Community, John Erickson Conference Center, on Maiden Choice Lane. Banner printing can be used to create luxurious, evocative decorations that would enhance events such as this.
