Catonsville on track for road resurface

Maryland's State Highway Administration recently announced the start of a resurfacing project near Catonsville.

Work on MD 144/Frederick Road between Ellicott City and Catonsville began earlier this month and will continue throughout the fall.

The administration said that work crews will begin by taking off the top layer of pavement, then patching spots where such repairs are needed, and then finally resurfacing the entire stretch. The area affected is a two-mile length of Frederick Road between River Road and North Rolling Road. Timonium contractor Gray and Son, Inc., won the contract for this project.

Signs, barrels, cones, and flaggers will be used to help traffic make its way through the construction area. Measures to assist drivers are scheduled to be in place weekdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 6:00 am to noon. Frederick Road, which is normally a two-lane thoroughfare, will be reduced to one lane.

Authorities are warning drivers they need to be extra alert, leave plenty of space between vehicles, reduce speed, and be on the lookout for instructions from highway crews.

State authorities might want to work with a flyer printing company to create a single-page mailer for area residents, highlighting the construction area on a map, noting the hours the road will be obstructed, and suggesting alternate routes.
