Heart of Danville was recognized as one of the longest running urban programs in the state, contributing to the revitalization of the downtown core of Danville. The program has brought more people into the center of down, rejuvenating the retail and service industries such as Print companies.
The other award-winning program was Henderson’s Main Street. Both have been operating for 25 years in their respective areas.
During the awards evening, attended by professionals in the urban revitalization industry, the weekly electronic newsletter issued by Heart of Danville was singled out as a prime example of marketing to downtown businesses. The Danville program also garnered a Best Organization Award for the board of directors’ work in strategic planning in 2011.
“The planning process is unprecedented, giving the public and many naysayers an opportunity to get involved in Main Street, have their voice heard and watch the program embark on a process to take Danville to the next phase in downtown development. Heart of Danville is now poised to move forward with a new sense of energy and purpose,” said Becky Gorman, coordinator of State Main Street, the umbrella organization which Heart of Danville falls under.
“Danville is a rock star in the Kentucky Main Street Program. The Heart of Danville continually seeks new ways to do better, be better and do right by their community,” said Lindy Casebier, a member of Heritage Council.
