Hoffman Estates’ Black Bear Park offers the public a chance to get out and enjoy nature, and locals have been asked to join in a project that will help to protect and increase the venue’s biodiversity.
Those who volunteer with the initiative will be creating seed bombs that combine native plant seeds with clay and compost. The clay protects the seeds while the compost provides a boost of high-density nutrients to give them a good start.
Helpers at the event will be processing the seeds so that they are ready to use, and they will then mix them along with the compost and clay. Next, they will head to a designated spot in the park where they will place their seed bombs. During the first rain, the clay will dissolve, and the seeds will hopefully sprout and be on their way to a long life. The activity is suitable for all ages, and everyone should arrive dressed for the outdoors.
Offering the public an opportunity to get involved in environmental stewardship is one way an area can build a strong sense of community. Small Promotional Products can be prepared to distribute to these helpers to thank them for their support.
This opportunity to give nature a helping hand will begin at 8:00 am on Saturday, May 11. The Hoffman Estates Parks website provides further information.
