How much an Alpharetta property tax bill is reduced is dependent on the homesteaded property’s assessed value, as well as how much money the DeKalb County sale tax revenue program EHOST collects in a year. For a home with a value of $325,000 and qualifying for the exemption, the average tax credit provided by the program is $1,230.
In a statement, Thurmond pointed out that:
“DeKalb County is the only county in Georgia with a local sales tax that is 100 percent dedicated to property tax relief. In addition, for the sixth consecutive year, the Board of Commissioners voted against raising the current millage rate. Our EHOST property tax relief strategy has been a monumental success.”
Elected officials often utilize brochure printing services to inform and gain the support of voters.
Granted approval in 2017, EHOST was projected to provide $660 million in tax relief during its lifespan of six years. At the end of 2022, EHOST will have saved tax payers with a homestead exemption $591 million, with an additional 15 months left before the program expires. Before it is finished, it is estimated that the EHOST tax relief credit will have exceeded $700 million.
