Alpharetta to headhunt its artists

Alpharetta’s music scene is taking off, and to help celebrate this expansion, artists are being sought to create works of art.

The city is interested in having five pieces of sculpture that it hopes will be just the first of many others that will find a place in the community. These initial five will be a part of ‘Instruments in Inspiration’, as the project has been dubbed.

According to the city’s Assistant Administrator James Drinkard, members of the public were consulted about their vision for the plan, and their feedback indicated that they were interested in having a variety of artists take part, using their own interpretation of the theme.

Drinkard further remarked that he would be pleased if at least some of the works will be interactive, as this can make them even more exciting and engaging. A Print company can produce signage that can be installed with each sculpture that describes both it and the artist, as well as their inspiration in creating it.

The Art in Public Places panel will review the proposals that are submitted and will score each of them based upon their quality, creativity, interactivity, design elements, and also how well they integrate into their surroundings. From these, a short list will be prepared, which will be presented to both the public and the city council for their opinion. The city council will then select the winners.
