Richard Woods, the Georgia State Superintendent of Schools, has recently revealed the 2022 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools and Alpharetta was named in five of the eight categories of AP schools.
School systems often turn to Print shops to share any recognition of academic excellence they may receive.
Alpharetta High School is listed as an AP Humanities School as well as an AP Humanities Achievement School. Alpharetta High School also qualified as one of the AP Schools of Distinction for having a minimum of 20% of the student body taking AP exams, and among those having at least 50% earning a score of 3 or better.
Two STEM categories are also represented: The AP STEM Schools, where there are at least five students testing in a minimum of four AP STEM courses, and the AP STEM Achievement Schools, which are those AP STEM Schools that have at least 50% of their AP STEM exams score a 3 or higher.
The College Board administers AP exams as well as the SATs. Georgia high school students, by taking AP courses, are able to access college-level learning. Those students receiving a 3, 4 or 5 AP exam score could potentially receive college credit. The Georgia Department of Education first started in 2008 to recognize AP Honor Schools.
