An LCI (Livable Centers Initiative) grant has been awarded to the City of Alpharetta by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) to fund a planning study.
LCI grants are provided to assist communities in determining the changes necessary to become vibrant, pedestrian friendly places that offer ample mobility options. The grants are intended to be used to promote healthy lifestyles and enhanced access to jobs and services.
One the studies are complete, the municipality becomes eligible to apply for funding from the federal transportation department for projects such as sidewalks, smart corridor improvements and multi-use trails.
Printing services can supply the multiple copies of large Blueprints often necessary for public improvements, such as changes to roads and sidewalks.
This latest LCI grant will center on South Main Street beginning at Old Milton Parkway and extending south to the city limits. The focus of the study will be the development of safe walking and biking opportunities, and promotion of transit ridership.
The City of Alpharetta already has two distinct areas that were the focus of LCIs and has received millions of dollars as a result to help pay for planning efforts, trail connections and road improvements.
Created in 1999, the LCI program was designed to distribute federal transportation money to be used in the planning of town and employment centers. Once plans are made, communities can apply for funding to turn their plans into reality.
