Alpharetta civic leaders to host Memorial Day tribute and events

City officials in Alpharetta and members of the Alpharetta Rotary Club have announced plans to once again host a Memorial Day event at the end of the month.

The event will include an Invocation, National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, and speeches from local civic leaders and elected officials. The event’s keynote speaker will be Grant McGarry, a former US Army Ranger who had five deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as part of the country’s military endeavors. McGarry grew up in nearby Roswell, enlisting in the army shortly after his 2006 graduation from the University of Alabama. McGarry will discuss his experiences during the two military actions.

McGarry’s book, A Night in Pech Valley, is available for purchase at local stores on online. It makes an excellent read or corporate gift for interested individuals. The book can also be purchased as an audiobook and serves as a memoir of McGarry’s time in the military, specifically telling the story of his experiences in Pech Valley, next to the Pech River in eastern Afghanistan.

The event itself will take place on Monday, May 29, which is Memorial Day. It will start at 9:00 AM and run until approximately 10:15 AM. There is no charge to attend the event, which will take place at Alpharetta City Hall, located at 2 Park Plaza.
