Alpharetta announces street closures for food event

After a two-year absence, the “Taste of Alpharetta” is coming back and organizers are expecting an even larger number of attendee than in previous years, prompting city officials to close more streets than in the past to accommodate the crowd.

Among the largest event of this type event in the Southeast, the Taste of Alpharetta has traditionally been held in the city’s Downtown. This year, the food festival’s return is expected to attract even more than the previous 40,000 to 50,000 attendees to the single-day event. In preparation, the Taste’s footprint has been enlarged to include almost all of Downtown Alpharetta, hence the additional street closures.

Organizers frequently employ a banner printing service to advertise an upcoming large event weeks in advance of its occurrence.

One of the new closures this year will be State Route 9, which runs through the event area. In the past years, pedestrians crossing Route 9 during the event have created safety issues for pedestrians, as well as a traffic back-up with vehicles trying to get through Downtown Alpharetta. A total of nine roads will be closed for the May 12 event, with some being shut down as early as 7:30 am.

The City of Alpharetta is asking those not attending the event or living or working downtown to avoid the area. Check here to learn which roads will be closed, as well as when and for how long.
