The Brazilian Folks Festival is taking place this month in Pompano Beach. It is a presentation of the City of Pompano Beach and a fundraiser for Minority Help.
The festival will be a celebration of the cultural heritage of Brazil which may include traditional foods such as Feijoada (black bean and pork stew) and Pao de Queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), folk dances and samba.
The Sambala Samba School will be having a parade that all can participate in, there will be a folk food contest and the open stage that will allow anyone who wants to show off their talents. There will also be a Capoeira show which is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines dance, music and acrobatics. In addition, several vendors will be on hand to sell Brazilian-related merchandise and foods; many may also be giving out freebies and samples to help promote their businesses.
Minority Help is part of the Brazilian Arts and Cultural Engagement program (B.R.A.C.E.) that promotes local talent while providing opportunities for community development. The organization's programs include youth culinary classes and arts and crafts.
