The Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department will hold a poetry festival in December at several local venues.
The Exit 36 Slam Poetry Festival is a competitive multi-day event where talented poets have a chance at winning cash prizes. Many spoken word poets will compete this year, including Dove Dupree, Lady Brion, and George Lee. Only the top three performers will earn money during the event. There will also be other activities held throughout the fest, including a welcome mixer, story slam, and a theatrical performance of Country of Kings.
The guest host for the contest is Sha'Condria Sibley, an artist, writer, and poet from New Orleans who has appeared in the series One's Verses and Flow. Her work has also been featured in the Huffington Post and Teen Vogue. A workshop will be given by Tavia Osbey, the co-founder of MidCitizen Entertainment. Osbey is the manager of the Grammy-nominated group Tank and The Bangas and has 13 years of experience in the music industry.
The slam poetry festival will be held from Thursday, December 8 to Saturday, December 10. Each date of the fest will take place at a different location, including Bailey Contemporary Arts, the Ali Cultural Arts Center, and the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. Organizers for competitive programs such as this may use flyer printing to get more locals interested in their events.
