The Pompano Air Park in Pompano Beach will host an athletic activity in July for students returning to school.
The Fun Fit 5K Challenge is an activity where people can physically push themselves in a friendly competition. The event will force participants to complete 10 reps of an exercise for every half-mile they complete. The featured exercises for the race include air squats, jumping jacks, sit-ups, and lunges. Those who take part in the challenge will be given a finisher medal, signature bib, and a commemorative T-shirt from the organizer.
The organization behind the event is Team Fort Lauderdale, a group that was initially known as The Greater Fort Lauderdale Road Runners Club. The organization's mission is to use long-distance running to promote physical fitness. The group was formed in 1972 and is part of the Road Runners Club of America. Cynthia Raes-Barnard is the current president of the club, and Daniel Kofler is the organization's vice president. The club hosts weekly workouts and social runs.
The challenge will be on Saturday, July 29 from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. The cost to participate in the event is $25 per person. Those interested in becoming part of Team Fort Lauderdale can pay $35 per year for an individual membership. Athletic groups in charge of activities like this may use poster printing to market their races to the community.
