Pompano Beach to hold reef cleanup

This month, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection will be hosting a reef cleanup at the Sands Harbor Marina in Pompano Beach.

The 9th Annual Southeast Florida Reef Cleanup aims to try and keep the state’s coral reefs in good condition by cleaning debris and other garbage from the ocean. The mission is to protect the natural reefs by hosting cleaning sessions throughout Southeast Florida during the summer. The event calls for scuba divers to assist with the cleanup, though there will be positions available for those who prefer to stay on the shoreline.

The people who assist with the coral reef cleaning will be offered giveaways as a token of appreciation for their help, in addition to getting discounts from charter boat companies. Anyone who wants to provide their assistance in cleaning the coral reefs must register for the event in advance by calling the South Florida Dive Headquarters. Similar organizations can use flyer printing for advertising events to the public.

The 9th Annual Southeast Florida Reef Cleanup will be held on Sunday, June 30 from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. The boat will be departing from the harbor at 8:30 am. The price to attend is $65 per person, which includes two dives. It will cost extra for any additional gear or tanks. There will be other cleaning sessions held the following month at Palm Beach on July 14, 20, and 21. Divers will be cleaning coral reefs in Martin and Miami-Dade on July 27.
