Goodyear unveiled its newest blimp – Wingfoot One – in Pompano Beach. It took off from the Goodyear Airship Base on October 22 for its first flight.
The latest edition to the Goodyear family of blimps flew over popular sports stadiums, including the American Airlines Arena, Sun Life Stadium, and Marlins Park, so spectators were lucky enough to catch its first flight.
The blimp has a few differences from traditional blimps, including its unique triangular structure, which is made of carbon fiber and aluminum. This combination of materials and its form are what allow it to take off vertically.
A lot of work went into the creation of the Wingfoot One, from engineering and aeration teams, to graphic design for the blimp’s ‘look’ and inclusion of the Logo Design.
Goodyear is celebrating its 90th year of operation. Over its lifetime, airship technology has advanced, and newer models, such as the Wingfoot One, have been integrated into the fleet.
Production of the first Goodyear airship began in March 1917 and it first flew on May 24 that same year. The U.S. Navy ordered nine of these, called the ‘B-type’ airships in 1917, and an additional 15 of an updated model, the ‘C-type’, the following year. Goodyear decided to own its own airships, so in June 1919 it made that possible. The Wingfoot Express and three Pony Blimps were part of its inaugural fleet. Get a Free Quote for Logo Design
