Japanese celebration returns to South Florida

The Hatsume Fair is taking place this month for two days in nearby Delray Beach.

The event is a celebration of Japanese culture. There will be entertainment provided on three stages, which will include taiko drumming, martial arts demonstrations, dance performances, and samurai sword fighting. Other demonstrations will include bonsai and sogetsu ikebana (Japanese floral art).

Vendors will be on hand to sell a variety of Japanese-inspired items, including ceramics, jewelry, and plants. Food vendors will be there to sell Japanese street fair food as well.

There are expected to be plenty of children's activities, including Japanese craftmaking and games. Docents will also be leading tours of the Japanese gardens.

Another popular part of the fair will be the costume contest and fashion show featuring people dressed up as their favorite anime or manga characters.

Those who wish to have an official T-shirt of the event can bring their own shirt and have it printed for free at the Fine Print Shoppe, or purchase one for $10.

Visitors from the area, including those from Pompano Beach, will probably learn about this upcoming event through advertising materials such as Flyers.

The Hatsume Fair will take place at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens from April 16 to 17. Admission is $12 in advance for adults or $15 at the gate, and $6 for children between the ages of 4 and 10, or $10 on the day. Call 561-495-0233 to learn more.
