David Deal Play Day was established in 1953 as a way to celebrate the youth of the area, and was named after a local community activist. This year is its 60th anniversary and Play Day, despite its name, now lasts for an entire week.
The main celebration took place at Joseph C. Carter Park on Saturday, August 3, and featured a full day of family-friendly activities. Attraction included a cook-out, a bake off, children's activities, a basketball All-star Shootout, and the Teen Summer Jam. The remaining two events of Play Day are both sports-related.
Firstly, the 2nd annual Play Day Golf Tournament is a nine-hole game of golf being offered this weekend. It is free for all players. Prizes will be awarded for various achievements, such as getting closest to the pin and for putting. Refreshments will also be served.
Also, the Play Day Championship Swim meet is open to all swim teams in the tri-county area. It is free for spectators and will feature several competitions throughout the day.
These activities might attract people from nearby communities such as Pompano Beach. Local Print companies have likely been asked to provide advertising materials, such as Flyers, to help spread the word about these events.
Both of these sporty offerings take place this Saturday, August 10, with Golf Tournament being held at Osswald Park on from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, and the Swim Meet set to take place at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex on from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.
