The Parkinson Foundation has made a class available near North Miami Beach that can give exercise instructors skills to help people living with Parkinson’s disease to live a more active lifestyle.
The goal of the ‘Exercise for Parkinson's Training for Fitness Professionals’ initiative is to help trainers and fitness instructors learn how they can work with people with Parkinson's in a manner that is both safe and effective. The learning will take place both in the classroom and gym, and the focus will be on building an exercise program that offers fun.
The planners of the day explained that the skills taught can be used in both individuals and fitness classes, and they can help Parkinson’s patients develop muscle tone and overcome issues with mobility that are often part of this neurological condition. There is no charge to register, and the training will run for approximately six and a half hours.
At the end of the class, the students will each receive a certificate of completion, and items like these can be prepared by a printing services company. The participants may also qualify for continuing education credits.
Miami Beach JCC will be offering this workshop on March 9. It is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am. Registration can be arranged by visiting the session’s Eventbrite page.
