Snake Creek Canal Bike trail, which runs from North Miami Beach to Miami Gardens, was recently named as one of Bike 305’s top cycling trails. The program encourages residents to ride safely for health, recreational and transportation reasons.
Coming in at seventh place, the trail is a 6.5-mile route that follows along the Snake Creek Canal. Cities and municipalities could work with Print shops to obtain signage needed along bike trails to notify users of various parks, shopping areas, and restaurants located near the trails. The Snake Creek Trail offers these amenities and more.
Those using this trail can stop at several fitness stations along the way or visit smaller parks and covered picnic areas. Just a short distance from the trail are places to visit, along with businesses and schools that some commuters could bike to each day.
Plans are in development to extend the trail one day which would almost triple the distance to 18 miles. If the plans go through, it would offer the ability for residents to bike to Dolphins Stadium rather than drive, which would ease some of the traffic issues at big events.
Those wishing to use the trail can park at the North Miami Beach Public library which is located at 1601 NE 164th Street or at Schreiber Promenade located at NE 172nd Street and South Glades Drive.
