Heart Health Walk looks to raise awareness

For the seventh year running, the city of North Miami Beach will be holding a Heart Health Walk this February. The goal of the event is to encourage activity and increase awareness and knowledge about heart disease and other cardiovascular conditions.

The core of the event is an athletic challenge, a multi-mile walk around the North Miami seafront, which can be taken at whatever pace attendees are up for. Walkers will arrive at a pavilion with information booths from various groups and vendors dealing with heart health. Also on hand will be food vendors, games, raffles, and live entertainment. Organizers expect about 600 attendees, with the main goals being:

“…to connect individuals with services and resources in the community as well as to assist and educate families to be able to work within their own strengths and limitations while maximizing community supports.”

For health organizations, it offers a chance to talk directly with potential patients and customers, including those who may not realize they need heart help. Exhibitors are asked to use giveaways, such as flyer printing and brochure printing, to help ensure the topic of heart health is not forgotten afterwards. Last year’s walk, which took place for 2.6 miles around Snake Creek Canal, was deemed a significant success.

The 2020 edition of North Miami Beach’s Heart Health Walk will take place on February 22 on 19th Avenue.
