Roseville inaugurates all that jazz

Roseville will be holding its first Jazz Day Festival in a couple of weeks. This will be a one-day event featuring over 30 bands that will be performing on seven stages. Bands will run the jazz gauntlet playing mainstream, traditional, gypsy, Latin and various other styles.

Crowds will get to experience the music of Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra’s trumpeter Mike Vaz, some licks from Count Basie Orchestra members – Will Matthews and Cleave Guyton- and two shows showcasing the iconic Manhattan Transfer. Fans of these artists will no doubt be wearing Promotional Products they bought on the bands’ websites.

Bands will be paying tribute to Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Pat Metheny. Jazz ensembles such as the American River College Vocal Jazz Ensemble, duos, trios, quartets, soloists, and larger groups such as Sacramento Jazz Orchestra are on the lineup. Along with Vaz’s trumpet, jazz will be wailing on guitars, harps, saxophones, and pianos.

Fifteen minutes after the main festival closes a ticketed post- festival jam session will begin.

The Roseville Jazz Day Festival is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 26, from 11 am until 9:00 pm on seven stages located along Vernon Street. The Manhattan Transfer shows will be in the Roseville Theater Arts Academy, 241 Vernon St. at 4:00 PM and 7:30 PM. The post-festival jam session will be at the Randy Peters Catering Center at 105 Vernon Street beginning at 9:15 PM and ending around 11:00 PM.
