It is still not too late for those who love history to take a jaunt along the Placer County’s Heritage Trail. There are still eight museums to visit between now and the end of August.
For Roseville rock hounds, the first museum will be the Griffith Quarry Museum. There will be exhibits about granite quarrying, hands-on exhibitions, and a guided tour. The second stop will be the Rocklin History Museum with displays depicting buildings, pioneers and granite quarrying.
August museums will include the Maidu Museum and Historic Site, and the Roseville Telephone Museum. The latter has an extensive collection of antique communications technology.
Roseville Historical Society Carnegie Museum recreates Roseville’s past in train displays and information about families who have lived in Roseville through the decades.
Also in August, the trail will lead to the Colfax Area Heritage Museum where trail travelers will see exhibits about the history of fruit ranching, railroading, and gold mining. The Golden Drift Museum is a preserved Gold Rush town that will feature mining, railroad history, and information on Chinese immigrants and Maidu Indians.
A tour down Summit Canyon and a stop at the Sierra College Natural History Museum will round out the museums that will be along the trail.
The Heritage Trail is now in progress on selected Saturdays. Those interested will want to check with the Trail’s website for specific locations, times, and dates and reserve some space on their Calendars.
