Roseville area workshop to investigate going grass free

While a grass-filled front lawn may be a ubiquitous sight in many communities, there are other options, and a Roseville area workshop will help everyone get started.

Sunflower and Sage gardens has partnered with American River Ranch to offer the public an opportunity to learn about the benefits of transforming a lawn into a food garden – a process that may be surprisingly easy. Tickets for the class are $30 each.

During the workshop, the facilitator will explain to the group that a front lawn may provide enough space for a food forest, and there are many fruit-bearing trees, bushes, and other plants that would perform well in this type of setting. Topics such a s removing grass and keeping it at bay, preparing the soil for planting, irrigation methods, and ongoing care are all on the agenda, and the class will run for two and a half hours.

More people have become interested in sustainable gardening, and a workshop can offer them a chance to add to their skills and meet others who would also like to learn. Stationery printers can provide handouts, basic planting guides, and other items for an activity.

This introduction to the benefits of going grass free will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 9. Its ticketing system is still accepting registrations at the time of writing.
