For all Roseville residents who enjoy a good polka, pierogies, and all things Polish, it is nearly time to get ready for the 25th annual Polish Festival. Admission will be free, but they should take along some cash for the food and activities.
Sacramento’s own Polish band, Chet Chwalik’s Polka Band (including the Dave Chelini duo and Pol Muz) will be performing live. The crowd will also be entertained by San Francisco’s Lowiczanie Dance Ensemble. Since 1975, this group, composed of musicians, singers, and dancers, has developed a repertoire that includes music and dance from Poland’s rich history. For those interested, pictures of the performers would likely make striking subjects for later poster printing.
Eating will no doubt be more appealing than dancing to some, and there will be plenty of home-made Polish cuisine for sale—Polish potato pancakes and assorted Polish pastries, cabbage rolls (1,000 prepared in advance), along with over 5,000 pierogies (cheese-potato dumplings) and 700 pounds of kielbasa (Polish sausage). There will also be a Polish marketplace for the adults, games for the children, and raffles for cash prizes. A Polish butcher will also be on hand.
The Festival will take place a week tomorrow, September 6, from noon to 6:00 pm at the Polish American Club grounds, Polish American Club of Greater Sacramento, 327 Main Street, Roseville.
