Irvine performance tackles psychoanalysis and spiritualism

A drama with a modern twist will be on show this March in Irvine.

The performance, “Lifelines: Blavatsky Freud Experience,” draws inspiration from groundbreaking thinkers and contemporary issues to create a narrative around solving real-world problems. The story follows an expecting mother who somehow gives birth to historical figures Sigmund Freud and Madame Helena Blavatsky, who offer psychoanalytic insight and New Age theories.

The show will be interspersed with performances of ritual dance and music created by AI (artificial intelligence) archives, juxtaposed with live violin accompaniment. The sound has roots in the Balkans and American jazz. On the violin will be in-play actress Emilia Simeonov. The performance will be backed by a digital video created by Jon McKenzie.

Before the main event, patrons will also be able to watch a pre-show presentation of Leeny Sack's “Ventriloquist Baby.” She is the creator of The Performative Self, a workshop for budding artists. Further information about the event’s schedule is available through its listing on AllEvents.

Admission to the show is free. Graphic design is a useful tool when creating media for live performances such as this.

This event takes place on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16 at the Experimental Media Performance Lab, which is at the University of California’s Contemporary Arts Center in Irvine. It begins at 8:30 pm on both nights.
