A favorite event of Southern California bicyclists is on the schedule.
The Team OC Solana Beach Ride is a group event that takes riders through some of Southern California's coastal cities, and then lets them relax as an Amtrak train takes them back home. Riders pedal off from the Amtrak station in Irvine, choose their route and start for Solana Beach. Once there, they will enjoy Pizza Port pizza, put their bikes on a U-Haul, and catch the train back to Irvine.
There are two routes this year, one that covers 71 miles, and a second that runs for 89 miles. The 71-mile route goes through Mission Viejo before it turns back to the beach. The second route goes through Trabuco and Santiago Canyons before it too returns to the beach, with Solana Beach the end point of both routes.
One change this year is that riders will not be able to go through the Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton, but will have to use the bike lane beside the I-5 freeway instead of entering the base proper.
Riders will need to be at the Amtrak station there in time to catch Amtrak train #785, at 4:36 pm, for the ride back to Irvine. Registration fees cover everything but the pizza and the train ticket.
The event is presently scheduled for September 26, from 5:30 am until 6:00 pm. Flyer printing is an excellent resource to use to provide handouts for events like this.
