The Ocean Institute in Dana Point will continue its “Spirit of Dana Point Sail” events next month.
The ship guests will be riding is an accurate replica of schooners from the 1770s. Schooners were sailing ships used during the American Revolution and were renowned for their speed. This replica was built in the 1970s to honor America’s history.
Onboard the ship, entrants can join the crew in handling the schooner. Activities include handling lines and steering vessel. The event is also great for students who want to learn about marine history, and what it would have been like to live at sea in previous centuries.
The tour will follow COVID-19 procedures to help ensure guests’ safety. All participants and staff will be required to wear face masks, and the entire ship will be sanitized before the event. Guests will also have access to hand sanitation throughout the ride.
One ride will be available on the Saturday of each week and will happen between 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM. Registration for the event is $60, but Sea Star members and above are eligible for a $6 discount. The Ocean Institute also hosts other events throughout the year, which could utilize flyer printing to help promote them.
