A half marathon and trick-or-treating at the Ocean Institute, 24200 Dana Point Harbor Drive, provide lots of ‘together time’ and an early Halloween for families, with both of these events taking place on the same day.
The Ocean Institute will have plenty to keep families occupied. A pirate ghost will tell scary stories and kids can make creepy critter crafts. There will also be several spooky science labs, including Tide Pool Terrors, Vampires of the Deep, the Ghastly Goo Science Lab, and Cow Eye Dissection.
With the event running from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, a costume contest will be held at 12:30 pm with prizes awarded to the best ocean-themed effort, the scariest, and the most eco-friendly costumes. The cost is $6.50 for adults, $4.50 for kids ages 4-12, and free for kids in costume. For more information, call (949) 496-2274.
Meanwhile, the MiA Halloween half marathon, 5K, 10K, and kids’ run event will start at 8:00 am on the same day. The kids’ run will begin at 8:15 a.m. Registration ends on Friday, October 26 and packet pick-up will be available from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 27, so perhaps the organizers have consulted Print companies for some of the material inside. The course will follow the Salt Creek Regional Corridor Trail.
The runs will all begin at Salt Creek Beach Park, 33333 S. Pacific Coast Highway, Dana Point. Halloween costumes are welcome for all participants and there will be opportunities to participate in other Halloween activities. Awards will be given for the best costumes.
