Those for and against a dog park for Burbank weighed in on the pros and cons of potential sites.
As at last one Burbank resident, Terry Hudgens, utilized a flyer printing service to sway his neighbors against an off-leash dog park, others tried to drum up support for the park. In Hudgens case his concern is for the wildlife near his home and how it will be impacted.
According to Hudgens, about 22 deer graze in an open area across the street from Bel Aire Park, one of the potential park sites. Two other sites being considered are Johnny Carson Park South and the Starlight Bowl parking lot.
Two sessions were held in April to give residents an opportunity to air their opinions. Two options, A and B were discussed for each location. Option A was the more basic of the two, with option B including costlier features such as concrete paving and additional parking.
On hand at the meetings was the director of Burbank’s Park, Recreation and Community Services Department, Judie Wilkes, as well as an assortment of other members of staff. Also in attendance were representatives of AHBE Landscape Architects, hired by the city to assist with planning.
Preliminary feedback indicates that Johnny Carson Park South to be the preferred site, with option A winning out over option B.
