At a reception on October 7, Family Promise of the Verdugos presented its new executive director, announced a donation of $25,000 it received, and inaugurated a new donor program.
Burbank’s Porto's Bakery and Cafe was the venue for the reception, which presented Albert Hernandez, the group’s new executive director, with an opportunity to explain the organization’s mission. According to Hernandez, Family Promise, which is based in Burbank, aims to help families who, through no fault of their own, find themselves homeless for the first time. It provides them with three months of food, shelter, job training, and counseling.
The event was also used to inaugurate the 365 Club and announce a couple of fundraisers. The 365 Club is so called because the basis of the program is the donation of $1 a day to help homeless families’ transition to better living situations. The two fundraisers announced at the reception were Houses of Change and the Barragan’s Mexican Restaurant fundraiser. Following their mention at the reception, flyer and poster printing services will likely be used to continue their promotion.
Houses for Change involves small cardboard houses displayed in businesses to collect “change” that goes towards the plight of the homeless.
The restaurant fundraiser takes place at Barragan’s Mexican Restaurant this Thursday, October 22 from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm. Diners will have 20% of their bill donated to Family Promise if they mention they are there to support the charity.
