Seven year stint earns retirement for K-9

Police dog Cisko is taking a well-deserved retirement after seven years of working with the Anaheim Police Department.

Cisko, an 8-year-old German shepherd, with an impressive record apprehending suspects, has retired to live a life of leisure with his handler Officer Brian Bonczkiewicz. Officer Bonczkiewicz was given custody of Cisko by the Anaheim City Council at its mid-March meeting.

The retiring K-9 was given a short retirement ceremony where his list of accomplishments were detailed. Cisko has under his “belt” assisting in the capture of a number of suspects.

As illustrious as Cisko’s career had been it has not been without controversy. Cisko was involved in an incident that cost the cities of Anaheim and Garden Grove a combined $240,000, and demonstrated the need to educate the public, perhaps with the assistance of brochure printing services, regarding K-9 officers and the roles they perform.

The incident occurred four-years ago when an elderly man left his home during a door-to-door search after being told by police to stay inside. According to 86-year-old Robert Rosen, he almost lost an arm as a result of Cisco’s attack.

Officer Bonczkiewicz has been given a new partner, a two-year-old German shepherd named Ivan, to replace Cisco. Time will tell whether Ivan will be able to meet the high standards set by his predecessor.
