Race strides into downtown

Athletes in Anaheim and nearby Placentia can participate in a series of races taking place in a few weeks’ time.

The 16th Annual Downtown Anaheim 5K is a flat, fast course that is wheelchair accessible. Along with a 5K for adults, there will also be a McDonald’s 5K run for kids who are 12 and under. Children aged 11 and under can take part in the Amica’s 1K fun run.

Prior to the race, there will be a yoga mat stretch and the national anthem will be sung. After the event, participants can check out the free expo. It is likely vendors at the expo will have used a business card printing service in order to have cards to distribute at the event.

Registration costs $35 for the 5K, or $20 for the 5K children’s run. The kids’ fun run costs $13, going up to $15 after June 3. Signups can be completed online or through the mail. Registration includes a T-shirt, while supplies last. Packet pickup will take place on race day from 5:30 am until 7:15 am.

Participants should be ready to run, or walk, on June 13 at 7:30 am. The children’s 5K begins at 7:40 am and the 1K fun run will follow. The race starts on Anaheim Boulevard at Oak Street and ends on Center Street Promenade. Free parking is available in the structures on Oak Street. For more information, call 714 956-3586.
