New deputy police chief appointed for Anaheim

Dan Cahill, a veteran of the Orange Police Department, has been appointed to the newly created position of second deputy chief for the Anaheim Police Department.

Cahill was described in the news release announcing his appointment as:

“…well regarded for his extensive experience and accomplishment in Orange County policing.

“(He) brings with him the strong working relationships he has developed throughout the region.”

By early October, supplied by his business card printing company with a fresh supply of up-to-date cards reflecting his new position, Cahill should be ready to assume his new responsibilities. Those duties will include community service, field services, and investigations.

Cahill began his law enforcement career in 1991 when he joined the Orange Police Department. Prior to his promotion to captain in 2007, he served that department as an officer, sergeant, and lieutenant.

Chosen from what has been described as a “highly competitive” group of candidates from throughout California, Cahill has a varied and impressive résumé that includes work as a gang detective, crime scene investigator, SWAT team member, and developer of Orange’s homeland security program.

Anaheim’s new second deputy chief received his Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from California State University Fullerton, as well as a Master’s Degree from Chapman University for Organizational Leadership.

While working as a law enforcement officer, Cahill has also taught at both the Golden West College and Fullerton College police academies.
