The governing body for futsal in the United States announced earlier this month that the U.S. Futsal National Championships, which is now in its 29th year, would be hosted at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Futsal is a soccer-like game played indoors with teams comprised of only five players, and it is played with a smaller ball that has less bounce. The game, by its nature, demands improvisation and creativity. Several world class soccer players got their start playing futsal.
According to the U.S. Futsal President and CEO, Alex Para, an anticipated record number of teams will be competing for the National Championship in their division. More than 150 teams of men and women, across 13 age divisions each, will be participating in the initial round of play.
The large number of teams expected to participate is one reason why U.S. Futsal is returning to the 150,000 square-foot facility. A large facility is required to accommodate the multiple playing courts required.
