Starting in February, Anaheim’s own Katella High School will have the various walkways and pathways throughout its campus repaved, which will be the first major project for the Anaheim Union High School District’s $249m bond issue.
In addition to Katella’s repaving work, $9.2m will be used to install new shade structures, electric conduits, and underground piping. At the same time, a $2m project to include regional native plants and install a rainwater reclamation tank will be funded by a grant from the California Water Board’s Drought Response Outreach Program for Schools.
Additional projects are in the planning stage for other schools located in Anaheim, as well as those in Buena Park, Stanton, Cypress, and La Palma. Two million is budgeted for internet access improvement equipment that will benefit every district school.
By the summer of 2016, construction will start on a $5.8m solar panel installation program. It is anticipated that the panels will permit Anaheim Union to save money by sending electricity back into Southern California Edison’s grid.
Other projects include $25m for construction and renovations to Dale Junior High in 2017 and $22m for the construction of a new central kitchen at the Dale campus, which will serve all of the district.
Using a brochure printer to keep voters abreast of the way a bond issue is benefiting their local school campus can encourage the backing of future bond issues.
