Disney in Anaheim expands vegan menu

Disney Resorts in Anaheim will be adding more plant-based options to its food Menus. This will include restaurants, hotels, and food carts.

Cheryl Dolven, a food and beverage manager for the health and wellness division at Disney, says that vegan food has a broad appeal to customers.

Many food items were created in the Disney Flavor Lab, a facility used to develop and test new vegan menu items. Chefs have developed recipes to replace eggs, meat, yogurt, butter, and cheese. A green leaf graphic design on menus is used to identify vegan choices.

The team developed a seafood platter with ‘scallops’ that are made from royal trumpet mushrooms, ‘calamari’ made from breaded mushrooms, and a palm-based ‘crab’ cake. This will be served in select Anaheim park restaurants.

Another option is a plant-based meatball sub and hummus with tomato and cucumber relish spread served on pita bread.

At Star Wars Land in Anaheim, customers can enjoy a vegan meatball sub and the new hummus spread. There will be vegan burgers with sautéed peppers, vegan mayo or ketchup, and hot mustard.

Other restaurants will serve a vegan chili bowl with meat and cheese substitutes, non-dairy ranch dressing, and corn chips. This can be washed down with the likes of tea, beer, and other alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks.

The new vegan menu items at Anaheim Disney properties are scheduled to be available in the spring.
