Anaheim offering spots in herb walk

There is a world of edible plants waiting to be discovered even in urban areas, and those who take part in an Anaheim walk will learn how they can make full use of this bounty.

While Orange County is small, it is home to a large number of native species. This guided outing will introduce them to those who take part, and it will also include a classroom component.

The group will learn the basics of plant ID and how important it is to be certain they are collecting edible specimens and not a toxic lookalike. Foraging in ways that are illegal, ethical and do not harm plant populations will be discussed, and participants will also be taught how to preserve and protect species at risk. After this, it will be time to head out for the walk.

It was noted in its listing that the activity will be led by Tellur Fenner of the Blue Wind School of Botanical Studies. Everyone is asked to bring water, a notebook, lunch, clothing suitable to the weather, and possibly a camera.

Print shops will be able to lend a hand to those who facilitate a botany or horticulture-related class. They can supply everything from Copies of herbarium sheets to use as learning tools, to promotional Pens.

This introduction to the edible plants of Orange County will be on offer on March 26. Details about the location will be supplied to the registrants at a later date.
