Circus coming to town in Pickering

The Royal Canadian International Circus will be setting up its tent in Pickering this June for two weeks of classic entertainment.

Each show will feature a variety of high-level circus performers from around the world, including Leo Garcia the Human Cannonball, the Guerreros High Wire Troupe, and the Zeman Duo Roller Skaters. Acrobats and daredevils will perform in contraptions such as the Wheel of Destiny and Motorcycle Globe of Death. The show incorporates traditional circus acts such as clowns and acrobats with modern technology and lighting. There will also be a full range of traditional carnival food available for purchase, including treats such as cotton candy, snow cones, and candy apples, and air-conditioned tents to escape the summer heat.

Pickering is one of just 12 stops for the circus on its summer 2024 tour. The Royal Canadian will come off a tour of Western Canada, including a stop south of the border in Minnesota, for an extended stay at various southern Ontario cities, with Pickering included. Circus events in recent decades have changed to put more emphasis on human performers, but still retain much of the signature iconography used for colourful poster printing and other marketing as well as a desire to do anything to entertain an all-ages audience.

The Royal Canadian International Circus will be performing at Pickering City Centre from July 4 to 14, with 20 shows held at various times across the eleven-day period.
