The 30th annual Durham Regional Police Children's Games are taking place this month in Pickering.
The games are for children between the ages of 6 and 18 who have physical disabilities. They will be competing in a number of sports for medals and trophies; all of those taking part will also receive a gift bag of promotional items provided by sponsors of the event.
Among the sports in which participants will be competing are basketball, wheelchair rugby, mini-putt, and the bean bag toss. Spectators are welcome to attend and to watch all of the games which, like the Special Olympics, are aimed at providing the athletes with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
The day will start off with an opening ceremony. Later on, participants, their friends and parents will receive lunch that will be served by members of the Durham Regional Police and community volunteers.
Organizers may have been working with Pickering Stationery printers to help advertise this event in the community. Items such as Flyers can be distributed in many ways to encourage people to attend.
The Durham Regional Police Children's Games will be held at the Pickering Recreation Complex on October 25th from 9:00am - 4:00pm. Registration is also available on the day of the games, beginning at 8:30am.
