Applications open to upskill in games industry
The Girl Geek Academy and Film Victoria are offering women from Springvale and throughout Victoria an opportunity to enhance their careers within the gaming industry.
Applications are now being invited from games practitioners both women and non-binary who seek to attend the Girl Geek Academy Games Career Incubator between April and August 2019.
Film Victoria will be contributing $50,000 towards the programme, which will be conducted by the Girl Geek Academy in Melbourne.
During the past five years more than 10,000 tech and games industry women, girls and non-binary practitioners and students have taken part in meetups, game jams, online courses, intensive weekends and workshops.
The meetings are also ideal for networking and the exchange of business cards.
The Games Career Incubator targets practitioners who are just starting out with the aim of helping them to improve their skills and plan strategically for the future. Lisy Kane, co-founder and top games producer, said the focus was on the retention and acceleration of course participants within the games industry adding:
“We need more women and non-binary talent in senior games roles, and to make sure they have extended careers we need to be upskilling and working to retain this amazing talent. The group format also ensures our participants go beyond technical skill building, and equally focus on the power of professional networks to ensure career success.”
Applications for the Girl Geek Academy Games Career Incubator close on April 8, 2019.
