Time to put pen to paper in Braeside

Young writers from Braeside and around Kingston are being invited to take part in this year’s 'Ink About It' writing competition.

The contest was launched this month and is open to all budding authors aged between 12 and 25-years old. To enter, participants must create a short story, song lyrics or a poem based on the winning entry from this year’s 'Youth Services Picture This' competition. The 2015 winning photo from 'Picture This', featured an image of a snow-covered road near Mount Baw Baw with a single figure walking and was entitled Autumn Snow.

The Ink About It entries must interpret this image in some way and must be suitable for an audience of all ages.

The three winning entries will be published in the KYSS magazine produced by Kingston Youth Services and entrants could also get a professional printing company to create Copies of the work to send to relatives or even to potential publishers.

Winners will also receive gift vouchers, with the first placed writer also being offered a place on a creative writing course at Holmesglen TAFE while the two runners-up will get magazine subscriptions.

The competition will be judged by a panel made up from Kingston Youth Services staff and young people from the community.

Entries close on Friday September 25th and can be submitted online through the Kingston Young Services.
