The Mega Ferragosto weekend is celebrating all things Italian, from Friday 14th August until Sunday 16th August. Signorinella (Little Miss) stars Tina Arena and was first shown in 2025 to great reception at the Melbourne International Film Festival and at the St. Ali Film Festival.
The film explores the resilience of Italian women in Australia in the 1940s when they were separated from their menfolk who were placed in internment camps.
With resilience and fortitude, the women rallied, doing everything from harvesting crops, working in factories, starting restaurants and fashion businesses and becoming community representatives in parliament. Simultaneously, they would be running their homes, making pasta and raising their children.
One of the directors, Shannon Swan has said of the film:
“We’ve always said that the film represents the migrant story…so everyone can see a little bit of themselves in that.”
