Photographers to capture time for this years awards

The theme `Time’ will set the mood for entries in this year’s Kingston Arts OptiKA photographic awards.

Submissions are now being taken for the 2019 competition for which video makers and photographers are invited to capture images correlating with the theme in Braeside and throughout Kingston.

More than $6,000 in prizes is up for grabs in what is the awards’ 11th year.

Those participating will be vying for cash prizes of $4,000 for Best Photography Award, $1,000 People’s Choice Award, $1,000 Portrait Award, and $500 Video Award.

To assist entrants, industry expert and professional photographer Peter Merriner will host professional development workshops between now and September in an effort to help build or fine tune technical expertise.

Various locations have been selected for the `Walk and Shoot’ excursions, which are aimed at photographers with all levels of skills, from beginners to professional.

The first workshop will be held at Mordialloc Creek, foreshore and pier this Saturday, July 13, from 10:00 am to noon, followed on August 11 at Bicentennial Park in Chelsea, and September 7 at the shopping centre precinct and train station at Moorabbin.

The workshops are open to people over 16 years and tickets are $15 each, or $10 for concessions.

Entries in the 2019 OptiKA Awards close on October 15 and all submissions will be display in an exhibition at G3 in Parkdale’s Shirly Burke Theatre from December 5, to January 4, 2020 as well as at DFO Moorabbin.
